Hello

What kind of people hire you?

All sorts. Hipsters. Non-hipsters. Couples who want barefoot vows in the bush. People allergic to social media (or obsessed). Second-timers who’ve done the big white dress thing before and now just want a knees-up with mates. Mostly Sydney-siders who don’t want traditional, stiff wedding photos and like a bit of edge in their images, you know, grit and glitter. I photograph a lot of multicultural couples too, which I love, the more colour, chaos, and culture, the better. Oh, and weirdly, I seem to attract sound engineers. Don’t ask me why.

What inspires you?
Warm skin tones in late arvo light. Layers of city grit and ocean calm. Bold colours, worn textures, storm clouds over sandstone. The little blink people do before they cry.

Most useful skill you’ve picked up as a Sydney wedding photographer?
Definitely shooting while half-squatting in the back of a moving Kombi van, trying not to fall out the door or knock over the cake.

What do people ask you at weddings?
“Any good ones?” (yes) and “How many have you taken?” (too many to count, not enough to stop).

Do you dream about your job?
Yep. And it’s rarely dreamy. Last time, I had to shoot a wedding on Bondi Beach with no warning, no camera, and someone handed me a broken GoPro and a dying iPhone. I made it work. In the dream, at least.

"...I only smoke after yoga & medieval reenactments & think banana yogurt is largely underrated.   And I’m one of those sit-on-a-bus-and-watch-people types. The quiet voyeur. I notice things — how someone pulls at their sleeve when they’re nervous, how laughter lingers just before it dies. It’s probably nosy. But it’s also how I see the world.

As a kid, my floor was chaos — paper scraps, glue sticks, crayon streaks on the carpet. I made mess to make sense. I still do. Only now it’s called photography.  I chase that flicker — the bit of someone that shows before they realise you’re looking. That realness. That soft, brilliant, messy human truth..."
